WHY EKO '77?
WHAT'S IN
A NAME?
The name EKO '77 is derived from the Yoruba word for Lagos, which was the former capital of Nigeria. The '77 in the name refers to FESTAC '77, the 2nd World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture held in 1977 in Festac, Lagos. Lagos is renowned for its rich and diverse culinary traditions, which have been shaped by the city's history and geography. By naming her restaurant EKO '77, Chef Sekinat pays homage to the city and the culture that has inspired her cuisine.
